Native People:

Originally a Roman province, Croatia was settled in the 7th century by the Croats. Under the rule of Charlemange the natives adopted Christianity as well as the Roman Alphabet. The Austro-Hungarian kingdom was established much later in 1867, which Croatia was part of until the fall of the Austria-Hungary in 1918 after its defeat in World War I.

Independence:

Croatia claimed its independence on October 29, 1918 and joined in union with Montenegro, Serbia, and Solvenia to form the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. Later changed to Yugoslavia in 1929. In 1941 Germany invaded Yugoslavia forcing Croatia as a Nazi state. During this time Croatia Fascits persecuted countless Jews and Serbs during the war.

Modern:

Germany was defeated in 1945 and and Croatia was made into a republic of the newly reconstituted Communist nation of Yugoslavia. Despite the regime, Croatian nationalism persisted. In 1980 Yugoslavian leader Josip Broz Tito died leaving Croatia demanding for independence. Free elections were held in 1990. The communists were defeated by the nationalist party, led by Franjo Tudjman. In June 1991, the Croatian parliament passed a declaration of independence from Yugoslavia. Following the announcement six montsh of fighitng with Serbian Yugoslavian army, claiming thousands of lives.

Today:

Croatia runs as an independent country with a working democratic governemnt. Its citizens are happy and their education system is vasting expanding! 1.
